ARTIST PROFILE

Let’s read other people talk (better) about me and my artworks:

“MEGA IS LIKE A SPA HOLIDAY – his work is the antithesis of low-key and moody, and the best antonyms to describe him are thus ‘unlow-key’ and ‘unmoody’. Mega draws bold, bright jungles filled with characters coloured so vibrant they hum; hyper-fun hippity-hoppity street scenes; clickity pop-culture soups. And like the best soups, his line work is thick and meaty – you’ll need a fork, not a straw, to chew it up. Like that big beef-head in that one Campbell’s Chunky commercial.”
by FIVE THOUSAND.

“MEGA DISTINCTIVE STYLE combines sleek lines and tribal influences. In his works, you can see how the best of contemporary urban cultures meets age-old traditions and philosophies.”
by IdN WORLD.
“MEGA IS INSTANTLY LIKABLE, the street style and attitude infectious, his globe-trotting lifestyle creates a unification of global counter-culture in his work which overflows with a panoply of colour, slick well-chosen lines and a hawks eye for a good angle. Mega is one of those that simultaneously breaks the mould but acts as a distillation of his genre, his work trades in alternative culture kudos, which like a precious currency, corporates try to co-opt to put some dents in their cold calculating exteriors and inject some life into their atrophied veins of style by committee, all the while they fund Mega, laughing from his tropical paradise knocking out work he couldn’t help but do.”

basics behind the artworks by Mega

ARTWORKS BY MEGA

How did I develop my body of work? How do I create my artworks?
Learn more about my creative process.

Discover the story behind the artworks by Mega:

  1. WHEN YOU SEE MY ART, YOU SEE MY SOUL:
    1. Throughout the years, I’ve done a lot of exhibitions around the world.
One thing I’ve learned is that art buyers expect you to specialize.
    2. My art translates my inner vision of the world. No matter what medium I choose, I want people who see my canvases, prints or handmade drawings to know that these are “artworks by Mega”.
    3. I meet many aspiring artists who fail to propose a unique style. They think that versatility is a quality. They try to show too much. This is a mistake. Galleries and art lovers want to know who you are.
    4. It is better to stick with one style you truly master and not look unfocused. Artists should offer a unique voice. Let’s see how I managed to build mine.
  2. MY DISTINCTIVE VOICE:
    1. You may notice a continuity between my first exhibition and my newest project. Before I did my first exhibition, I wrote a screenplay.
    2. The script helps me to stay coherent. On every solo exhibitions I expand this story I call “La Société Des Griffeurs”.
    3. In Longing To Be Knotted Together I introduced the story. A group of suburban teenagers travel to Borneo to create a secret community. In I Just Murdered The Alphabet the kids start to create rituals. They wear masks and create a new identity. I showed this in my solo exhibition in Spain.
    4. In my art shows I tell a story. Discover how I prepare a particular exhibition.
  3. HOW DO I PREPARE A SOLO EXHIBITION?
    1. When I prepare a new exhibition, I work in series.
My artworks should look good together. I work with a limited palette of colors and restrict myself to a single tool.
    2. For every art project, I work on a different aspect of my screenplay. A show will explore the cultural background of my characters when another exhibition will tell a particular episode.
    3. I keep a unique voice but I love to work with different tools.
  4. A UNIQUE STYLE ON A DIFFERENT MEDIUM:
    1. Before every solo exhibition, I practice hard to master an art technique.
    2. After screen-prints, I can work on canvases before I present handmade drawings. I want to expand my body of work and use techniques relevant to the exhibition.
    3. I use different techniques to explore various aspects of my style.

I hope that the list above will help you understand my creative process.
